Il Rione
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Music composed for the documentary film Il Rione, directed by Tania Scalercio.
The film a poetic short documentary that reflects on time, memory and the traces left behind by one of the most extraordinary sets in European television history.
The film follows the abandoned set of ‘L’amica geniale’ (My Brilliant Friend), the hit TV series co-produced by Rai Fiction, HBO and others. For seven years (2017–2024) this meticulously detailed reconstruction of the working-class Naples neighbourhood ‘Rione Luzzatti’ — built on a former industrial site in Marcianise near Caserta — served as one of the largest open-air film sets in Europe, hosting streets, façades and interiors that became a lived-in world for cast and crew.
Rather than a conventional behind-the-scenes feature, Il Rione observes the gradual reclamation of this space by nature. As plants, animals and silence replace cameras and crews, the documentary becomes a meditation on impermanence and transformation — a farewell to a place that was once a home for a fictional world but lived in real time for so many years.
The documentary is available on RaiPlay, and includes the presence of Alba Rohrwacher, whose connection to the original series adds a contemplative voice to this reflection on what remains when a story has been told and a world no longer needed.
